Colorado National Monument

Red-rock canyons, sheer monoliths, and Rim Rock Drive — the Colorado National Monument rises right at Fruita’s doorstep.

The Colorado National Monument protects a spectacular sweep of high-desert canyon country on the edge of Fruita and Grand Junction. Sheer-walled canyons, towering sandstone spires, and the winding Rim Rock Drive make it one of the most dramatic landscapes on the Western Slope — a national treasure you can reach from town in about ten minutes.

Hiking the Monument

Trails range from the paced Canyon Rim and Window Rock walks to the strenuous descents of Monument Canyon and No Thoroughfare Canyon, threading past spires and hidden pools deep in the rock.
